چکیده

T paper presents a parallel branch-and-bound method to address the two-dimensional rectangular guillotine strip cutting problem. Our paper focuses on a parallel branching schema. We present a series of computational experiments to evaluate the strength of the approach. Optimal solutions have been found for some benchmark instances that had unknown solutions until now. For many other instances, we demonstrate that the proposed approach is time effective. The efficiency of the parallel version of the algorithm is compared and the speedup, when increasing the number of processors, is clearly demonstrated with an upper bound calculated by a specialised heuristic procedure.

A simple approach to the two-dimensional guillotine cutting stock problem

Cutting stock problems are within knapsack optimization problems and are considered as a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard problem. In this paper, two-dimensional cutting stock problems were presented in which items and stocks were rectangular and cuttings were guillotine. First, a new, practical, rapid, and heuristic method was proposed for such problems. Then, the ...

A Comparative Study of Exact Algorithms for the Two Dimensional Strip Packing Problem

In this paper we consider a two dimensional strip packing problem. The problem consists of packing a set of rectangular items in one strip of width W and infinite height. They must be packed without overlapping, parallel to the edge of the strip and we assume that the items are oriented, i.e. they cannot be rotated. To solve this problem, we use three exact methods: a branch and bound method, a...

An Exact Method for the 2D Guillotine Strip Packing Problem

We consider the two-dimensional strip packing problem with guillotine cuts. The problem consists in packing a set of rectangular items on one strip of width W and infinite height. The items packed without overlapping must be extracted by a series of cuts that go from one edge to the opposite edge guillotine constraint . To solve this problem, we use a dichotomic algorithm that uses a lower boun...

A New Parallel Approach to the Constrained Two-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem

In this paper we present a new parallelization of an efficient best-first branch-and-bound algorithm to solve the constrained two-dimensional single stock guillotine cutting stock problem (CSP) to optimality. The underlying sequential branch-and-bound algorithm is based on an exact version of Wang's heuristic suggested by Viswanathan and Bagchi. In our algorithm we improve the upper bound and i...

A DC programming approach for constrained two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting problem

We investigate a new application of DC (Difference of Convex functions) programming and DCA (DC Algorithm) in solving the constrained two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting problem. This problem consists of cutting a number of rectangular pieces from a large rectangular object. The cuts are done under some constraints and the objective is to maximize the total value of the pieces cut. We reform...
